What new vision of Morocco-European Union partnership in the light of the mutations in the south Mediterranean neighborhood ?
Within the framework of its debate-cycle opened to accredited Ambassadors to Morocco, IRES organized on 10 February 2014, a conference on the theme " what new vision of Morocco-European Union partnership in the light of the mutations in the south Mediterranean neighborhood ? ", moderated by Mr. Rupert JOY , Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Union in Morocco.
During this conference, which was attended by senior officials of public sector, private sector actors and academic experts, emphasis was placed on the progress made on various area of Morocco-European Union cooperation and the prospects of its strengthening, through a new vision of partnership, based on structural vectors. Other aspects were highlighted, including the foreign policy of the European Union with regard to socio-political changes in the Southern Mediterranean countries and the recent security developments in the Sahel-Saharan region .
The debate held during the conference focused, among other things, on the potential of the “accord de libre-échange complet et approfondi” currently in negotiation between Morocco and the European Union as well as the prerequisites to maximize the positive effects of this agreement on the Moroccan economy. In this regard, it was stressed the importance for Morocco to accelerate the convergence of its regulatory system toward the “Acquis Communautaire” to deepen the country’s economic integration into the European single market.
