  • Seminar presenting the results of the national survey on social ties to Morocco

IRES held, on Friday, March 16, 2012, as part of the Program "Social Bond: what role for the state and all social actors?”, a seminar in which were presented the main results of the national survey on social bond in Morocco. The seminar was attended by policy makers and recognized experts with the aim to discuss the main results of the survey and to collect opinions before editing its general report.

The debate highlighted the weakness of the social sciences research in Morocco, the importance of IRES’ survey and its pioneer aspects in the whole region, to a better mapping of the various ties and the growing importance of social and spatial mobility in the evolution of social bonds. The debate highlighted also the process of empowerment within the family and individuation within the society in general that seem irreversible and determine the evolution of the social bond in a more democratic way.

In the perspective of a better understanding view of societal changes underway, participants recommended that the investigation of country’s socio-economic aspects has to be more recurrent and frequent to help the government developing pertinent policies. Similarly, a consortium could be established for this purpose involving universities, public and private partners to set up a national observatory on social bonds. Finally, academic research in humanities and social sciences should be encouraged, better regulated and systematized. A high-level institution dedicated to research in the sciences of man and society should be established as a center of excellence in the field. An international benchmark will help to draw the profile of the institution, to be inspired by the most successful national experiences.
