Nature-centric / The Ocean : a global challenge and a planetary solution
The ocean’s health is deteriorating at an unsuspected pace: hardly known by scientists, little or not at all taken into account by politicians, and neglected by a consumerist civilization unaware of its vulnerability, the global ocean is suffering.
At a time when the United Nations is launching the Decade of Ocean Sciences, which aims to bring about a paradigm shift in the production of qualitative and quantitative knowledge about the oceans, IRES had to make its contribution to the development of sustainable solutions for the sea and, through it, for humanity.

Abstract
The ocean is a complex, interdependent environment with mechanisms and operations that are still poorly understood. Understanding this oceanic system, its functioning, its links with the climate, and its ecosystem services should be the basis for human actions in protecting and enhancing ocean resources for sustainable development.
