A natural, geological phenomenon referring to soils whose temperature remains below freezing 0°C for two years or more. It stores twice as much methane CH4 and carbon dioxide CO2 as the Earth’s atmosphere; quantities of greenhouse gases that account for about 15 years of human emissions[i].
