Geostrategic challenges of maritime spaces

IRES held November 30, 2015, an international meeting on the theme "geostrategic challenges of maritime spaces", attended by senior officials from relevant government departments, representatives of the Royal Navy and the Royal Gendarmerie and national and international experts of maritime issues.

The meeting emphasized security tensions disturbing maritime areas, among which are piracy and illegal immigration, new economic challenges affecting the development of these areas as well as environmental issues related to the unsustainable exploitation of marine resources.

Other aspects were discussed, including the need for Morocco to turn the advantages conferred by its geographical position into true competitive levers and a root of its attractive power as well as to enhance ownership of legal international instruments governing maritime areas for the purpose of defending key interests of the Kingdom.
