Ecological footprint

The Royal Institute for Strategic Studies (IRES) hosted on May 2, 2016, an international meeting on the theme: "What policies for adapting to climate change and reducing the ecological footprint of the planet ?".

This meeting is a part of IRES’ contribution to the debate on climate and environmental issues, with view to the forthcoming World Climate Conference (COP22) to be held in Morocco on November 7-18, 2016.

Attended by ministerial departments and institutions involved in the preparation of the COP22 as well as Moroccan academics and foreign experts affiliated to well-known international think tanks, the meeting addressed key stakes and challenges raised by the acuteness of climate and environmental threats at national, regional and international levels. It shed light on best possible ways that could help to respond to these issues in terms of policies of adaptation to climate change and reduction of the ecological footprint.

During this meeting, a special session was devoted to Africa, which is one of the most vulnerable continents to climate change and whose ecological footprint is under strong pressure as a result of demographic growth and the over-exploitation of natural resources that exceeds the bio-capacity of the continent.
