  • Economic relations between Morocco and Algeria : towards a renewed framework for cooperation in the service of the revival of the UMA

As part of its study program "Global competitiveness and positioning of Morocco in the globalized system", the Royal Institute for Strategic Studies (IRES) held February 16, 2012 a seminar on "Economic relations between Morocco and Algeria: Towards a renewed framework for cooperation in the service of the revival of the UMA. " The seminar, to which took part a panel of experts in Maghreb issues, was devoted to examining various aspects related to Morocco-Algeria global and sectoral economic cooperation and the prospects of its enhancement within the framework of revitalizing the Maghreb integration. The debate at the seminar focused on the need for new impetus to intra-Maghreb economic relations in order to address the challenges caused by multiple mutations at work at regional and international level. For this purpose, the use of innovative approaches focusing on developmental projects with an active role of private sector and nongovernmental actors would be a highly useful contribution. Also, the debate emphasized on the need to boost economic tights between Morocco and Algeria and to make it a powerful tool serving the ambitions of our region for a unified, stable and prosperous Maghreb.
