  • The future of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Australia

The Royal Institute for Strategic Studies (IRES) organized a meeting on the future of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Australia (a member of the Commonwealth) on May 17, 2023, as part of the Ambassadors' Cycle. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mohammed Tawfik MOULINE, Director General of the Institute.

The conference was hosted by the Australian Ambassador, His Excellency Michael CUTTS, who was accompanied by a large Australian delegation. Ambassador Abdelkader El ANSARI, Director of Asian Affairs and Oceania at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Moroccans Resident Abroad, also attended the meeting, along with representatives from ministerial departments and national agencies involved in Moroccan-Australian cooperation.

The discussions primarily focused on the prospects of strengthening relations between Morocco and Australia. Key areas of interest included deepening political dialogue and cooperation within international organizations, bringing Morocco closer to the Commonwealth and its shared values and objectives, enhancing economic ties in sectors such as tourism, mining, and renewable energies (with hydrogen being an important asset for both countries), promoting cultural, academic, and scientific exchanges, particularly in the field of ocean sciences, and exploring opportunities for triangular relations with Africa.
