Free trade agreements signed by Morocco : what impact on the country’s global competitiveness ?
Within the framework of its study program "Global competitiveness and Morocco’s positioning in the globalized system," IRES organized on 14 November 2012, a seminar devoted to the discussion of the findings of the provisional report of the study "Free trade agreements signed by Morocco: What impact on the country’s global competitiveness ? "
During this seminar, which was attended by diplomats, some ministerial departments officials, private sector ‘actors and academic experts, emphasis was put on examining the results of free trade agreements signed by Morocco from a global and sectoral perspective, as well as the impacts of these agreements on the dynamics of domestic exports and the country's attractiveness to foreign direct investment.
The debate held at the event focused on some relevant aspects of Morocco’s foreign trade policy, including the conception and governance of free trade agreements, the competitive capabilities of national productive system and the level of development the domestic market. In addition, discussions have focused on identifying the necessary levers to even allow Morocco to maximize the benefits of existing agreements and to enhance its ability to better prepare new free trade agreements in the future.
