IRES organized on September 27, 2012, a round table on the theme " Morocco’s energy options: issues and challenges." Facilitated by experts on energy issues, this round table has examined the various dimensions of the national energy strategy, in terms of the opportunities it offers and the challenges it rises, taking into account Morocco’s development requirements and the changing pattern of global energy environment.

The debate held at this scientific event focused on the need to follow a transversal and integrated approach in order to implement best the national energy strategy, through the enhancement of its collective ownership by stakeholders, to reinforce the country’s technological capabilities so as to maximize its economic and social impacts and to strengthen financial visibility of large scale investment projects pursued in this field.

Other relevant aspects were highlighted including, in particular, the importance of bucking up the process of diversification of the national energy mix in favor of renewable energies by the improvement of energy efficiency as well as the opportunity to develop smart grids to ensure the integration of these energies in electrical networks.
